๐Ÿ’ก Candle Tips & Information

Candles can do more than fill a room with fragrance — they can set a mood, create comfort, and even bring a little calm into your day. To help you get the best from your candles, here are some simple but important tips and bits of information I’ve learned along the way.

๐Ÿ•ฏ️ 1. Trim Your Wick Before Each Burn

Always trim your wick to about ¼ inch before lighting. This keeps your candle burning evenly and prevents black soot or smoke. Long wicks can cause uneven flames and waste wax more quickly.

๐Ÿ”ฅ 2. Let It Burn Long Enough

The first time you light a candle, let it burn until the entire top layer of wax melts from edge to edge — this helps prevent tunneling (that deep hole some candles get in the middle). Each time you burn it afterward, aim for at least 1–2 hours of burn time for an even, lasting melt.

๐ŸŒธ 3. Avoid Drafts

Keep your candle away from fans, vents, or open windows. Drafts can cause the flame to flicker, leading to uneven burning and wasted wax.

๐Ÿงด 4. Store Candles Properly

Store your candles in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. Heat or sunlight can fade the color, weaken the scent, or cause the wax to soften. Cover candles with a lid or wrap them to preserve their fragrance.

๐Ÿ’• 5. Use Candle Accessories

Candle tools like wick trimmers, snuffers, and candle warmers can make a big difference. Snuffers help you safely extinguish candles without splattering wax, and warmers are a great way to enjoy the scent without lighting a flame.

๐ŸŒฟ 6. Know Your Wax Types

  • Soy Wax – Burns cleanly and evenly with minimal soot.
  • Beeswax – Naturally purifies the air and has a light honey scent.
  • Paraffin Wax – Common and affordable but can produce more soot.
  • Coconut or Blended Waxes – Luxurious and smooth-burning.

Each wax type has its own charm, so it’s fun to explore what fits your style best!

๐Ÿก 7. Enhance the Mood

Try pairing candle scents with your mood or season:

  • Fall/Winter: Warm, spicy, or woodsy scents
  • Spring/Summer: Floral, citrus, or fresh linen scents
  • Relaxing Nights: Lavender, vanilla, or sandalwood

Candles are such a personal experience — the right scent can turn an ordinary space into a peaceful escape.

๐ŸŒŸ 8. Safety First

Never leave a burning candle unattended, and always place it on a heat-safe surface. Keep candles away from curtains, pets, or anything flammable. A little extra care keeps your cozy moments worry-free.

๐ŸŽจ DIY & Seasonal Candle Ideas

I love sharing creative ideas, especially around the holidays! Check back for seasonal candle finds, DIY candle crafts, and decorating inspiration using your favorite scents.

Decorating existing candles with natural items like cinnamon sticks and evergreen sprigs, creating layered or themed candles with different colors and scents, and making floating candles in jars with water and seasonal elements like cranberries or seashells.

Seasonal decorations and themes
Cinnamon Stick Candle: Wrap cinnamon sticks around a glass jar or candle and secure with twine for a rustic, aromatic centerpiece. You can then pour wax into the jar or place a pre-made candle inside.

Evergreen Pinecone Candles: Place small pinecones at the bottom of a clear jar, fill with pine-scented wax, and add a wick.

Cranberry Floating Candle: Place red flowers and greenery in a tall cylinder, add water, and float cranberries and a candle on top. Change the water daily.

Hot Cocoa Candle: Layer brown and white wax to mimic a hot cocoa with whipped cream topping. Add a sprinkle of cocoa powder or cinnamon.

Floral Wrap: Tie fresh or dried flowers and leaves to the outside of a pillar candle with jute twine. For safety, tie the foliage lower on the candle to minimize fire risk and never leave it unattended.

Glittery Snowflake Candles: Use snowflake-shaped molds for glittery, small candles with a soft vanilla scent.
